Card 7, Growth

Roots

7 Growth

Expansion · Discomfort · Becoming · Courage

“You are being asked to outgrow your current shape.”

Growth is rarely comfortable. A seedling must break its own casing; a tree must split its bark to widen; every living thing that expands does so by stretching past the size it was safe in. Few plants grow like hemp: four metres in a single season, the stalk stretching so fast you could almost watch it. Growth at that speed is never comfortable. But it is what the plant is for. When Growth appears, it suggests that the discomfort you are feeling may not mean something is wrong.

Some discomfort simply comes with becoming more. Pause and check that this stretch is safe, meaningful and supported. You are outgrowing an old container: a role, a belief about yourself, a relationship dynamic, a comfort zone that has quietly become a cage. The pressure you feel is the edge of the casing. This card encourages you to lean into the stretch rather than retreat to a size that no longer fits. Real growth is directional, not frantic.

It does not mean doing more of everything, but extending toward what calls you, even when you cannot yet see where it leads. Expect awkwardness. New growth is tender and ungainly before it becomes strong. Be patient with the version of you that is still forming; do not judge the green shoot for not yet being the tree. Take one step beyond comfort. Then let it root before the next.

AffirmationI welcome the discomfort of becoming, for it means I am growing.
