Card 29, Letting Go

Awareness

29 Letting Go

Surrender · Softening · Trust · Openness

“Soften your grip and make space for what comes next.”

The plant does not cling. When the season turns, it releases its leaves and its seeds without guarantee of its legacy, trusting the ground to receive what it laboured all summer to make. This is not loss; it is the intelligence of release, and nothing new has ever grown in a hand that would not open. As hemp matures it lets its lower leaves fall, feeding the ground it stands in. Nothing is thrown away; it is simply passed down. Letting Go arrives when you are gripping something whose season has ended: a relationship as it used to be, an identity you have outgrown, a grievance that has become a companion. The grip feels like loyalty, or safety, or love.

Be honest about what it is costing you. The energy spent keeping alive what wants to complete itself, the space nothing new can enter. This card does not ask you to stop caring, only to stop clinging. Letting go is not failure. You are allowed to move on. What you release with consciousness composts into wisdom. You already know what this card is pointing to.

You thought of it before you finished reading. Take a breath. Thank it for what it gave you; the gratitude is real, and it is also the door. Then open the hand, at a pace you can sustain. Grief may come with the release, and that is allowed. An open hand has room for what comes next.

AffirmationI release what is complete, with gratitude, as I open to what comes next.

ReflectionWhat am I still holding that finished its season long ago, and what is the grip costing me?
