19 Love

We are taught that love is something we fall into or stumble upon, as if it were luck. Hemp is one of the few crops that comes in male and female plants and only when the two come together does new life begin. The deeper truth, which this card insists on, is that love is grown. And like any living thing, it thrives only under certain conditions. Honesty. Safety. Presence. Attention. Time. Without them, even the strongest spark fades. With them, even a small beginning can grow into something lasting. Love asks you to stop waiting for the perfect partner, feeling or circumstance to arrive, and to look instead at the conditions you are creating. Are you being honest (to yourself or others), or performing? Present, or half-elsewhere? Safe to be close to, or defensive? Love is less about finding the right person and more about becoming the right ground for love to grow.

This applies as much to love of self as love of another. The card may also be naming a relationship that needs tending. Something real that has been taken for granted and is quietly going untended. Water it with attention. Or it may be asking whether you are trying to grow love in poisoned ground, where no amount of effort will help until the conditions change. Tend the conditions, and let love do what love naturally does: grow toward the light.
